Overview of this position:
This position is part-time, 15 hours a week.
Schedule:
M-F, 3 hours a day (flexible on schedule- to discuss with manager) This position is Durational with the school year, potential to work some hours in the summer No benefits, or paid time off offered due to the amount of hours/ week.
POSITION
Summary:
This position reports to the Director of Adolescent Education and to the Director of Child and Adolescent Ambulatory Services.
Responsible for monitoring and responding to the overall health needs of students in the Clinical Day School.
Responsibilities include performing initial student assessments (safety status, physical and/or emotional complaints, hygiene, etc.
), monitoring self-administration of medications (prescribed or otherwise), maintaining state-required student health assessment records, prioritizing daily telephone calls regarding student#s health issues and/or medications, and observing, documenting and reporting medication issues/concerns to the appropriate MD or prescribing doctor.
# This position requires a holistic approach to adolescent health and a working knowledge of health issues (medical and psychiatric) pertaining to the adolescent population.

# EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION CT licensure as a Registered Nurse is required.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification is preferred.
Age-specific knowledge of population and level of care age-specific competences are required.
Familiarity with abuse and neglect reporting and duty-to-warn mandates and knowledge of community-based resources is preferred, but not required.
# EXPERIENCE A minimum of two (2) years experience.
A minimum of one (1) year experience in Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health # COMPETENCIES This position requires strong clinical skills including a demonstrated strong team orientation.
Strong written as well as verbal communication using the English language is essential.
Must be flexible in approach so that service-specific as well as overall system needs can be met.
Must be able to function effectively and independently in a work environment where multitasking is necessary.
Computer competency with basic knowledge of Microsoft WORD and OUTLOOK is essential.

##### Provides ongoing assessment and re-evaluation of student and the individualized treatment plan, identifying response as well as actual and potential problems and communicates to both school staff and treatment team members, as evidenced by feedback from staff, family and MD for Clinical Day School and through supervisor observations.

##### Promotes coordinated student care and optimal physical and emotional well-being by assuring that all appropriate releases are obtained and that there is communication and collaboration with others outside of the School who are involved in the student#s healthcare, as evidenced by feedback from community, family and MD for Clinical Day School and supervisor observations.

##### Completes documentation of student assessments and/or changes in health status and makes necessary changes to treatment plan by the end of the school day, as evidenced by review of student files and supervisor observation.

##### Consistently follows the protocols and policies of self-administration and the handling of medications brought into school from home, as evidenced by regulatory reviews and supervisor observations.

##### Remains current on medications, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of medication, age related risks, desired benefits, contraindication, side effects and adverse reactions through attendance at conferences, presentations and/or through literature and accepts responsibility for educating and collaborating with school staff, as evidenced by feedback from staff , MD for Clinical Day School and supervisor observations.

# Maintains licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut and takes initiative to submit updated information to Director of Education, as evidenced by supervisor observation and verification of licensure.

# Effectively uses psychological and physical management techniques to manage violent or potentially violent situations consistent with Physical Management Training (PMT), as evidenced by peer feedback, supervisor observation and attendance at annual PMT refresher.
